Smoking
First be sure you get the high quality leaves ,organic and authentic from Oaxaca Mexico .Dried leaves should be smoked in a pipe but most users prefer the use of a water pipe to cool the smoke. The temperature required to release salvinorin A from the plant material is quite high (about 240°C).
Many people find that smoking the unprocessed dried Salvia leaf produces only light or unnoticeable effects, perhaps due to the large volume of plant material that must be smoked to produce psychoactive effects. However, responses vary widely. A concentrated preparation of Salvia leaf called Salvia extract, with relative strength suggested by terms such as 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 30x,40x,50x,60x etc, may be smoked in place of natural strength leaves; this reduces the total amount of smoke inhaled for a given dosage of salvinorin overall, and facilitates more powerful experiences.
Tinctures
some other people prefer to use as Sublingual tinctures made with alcohol (95%+) are another popular way of prepared Salvia for other uses . The tincture is diluted down to 50-75% with warm water to minimize mouth irritation, damage and tissue damage from the alcohol, then held in the mouth while the salvinorin enters the body via buccal absorption under the tonge preference. The effects ramp up slowly over a period of 20-30 minutes soemtimes up to 50 , and taper off over 1 1/2-2 1/2 hours after the tincture is finally swallowed or spit out. The experience comes on milder and dissipates much more slowly compared with the relatively short duration of smoked Salvia.
An easily-made tincture consists of a 1:1 mix of alcohol with finely powdered leaf material. After the solid leaf material settles to the bottom, a few milliliters of the fluid poured off the top is one dose of tincture. The tincture must remain in a solution of 95% alcohol and mixed with hot water only moments before consumption, as even small amounts of water drastically reduce the alcohol’s ability to hold salvinorin when using Salvia.another way is by mixing fresh leaves with alcohol just the effects are too diferent
Oral (swallowed) and quid
The traditional Mazatec method in the mazatecs mountians in Oaxaca Mexico of swallowing the leaves may also be employed. However, salvinorin A is generally considered to be inactive when simply ingested, as the chemical is effectively deactivated by the gastrointestinal system. Therefore, the ‘quid’ of leaves is held in the mouth as long as possible in order to facilitate absorption of the active constituents through the oral mucosa. Chewing consumes more of the plant than smoking, and also produces a longer-lasting experience.leaves aremixed in a bowl with water and blended by hand
